SUMMARY In Martina Hansens' Hospital coxa plana patients have been consistently treated with 1 year's bed rest. This series comprising 100 patients and 132 hips was investigated when the disease was primarily concluded. The results (evaluated from X-ray pictures of the caput femoris) are better than those of non-treated patients, if weightbearing ceases early in the disease—about 60% against 25%—but they are not as good as those published in other quarters (Britain-America, Denmark). It is presumed that the duration of the bed rest should be prolonged to 1½ years on an average, but must be adapted to the needs of the individual patient. The younger the patient the better the prognosis of the disease seems to be.Downloads
