Reviewer of the month
February 2026

We congratulate Dr Jan-Erik Gjertsen on being the Editorial board´s choice as the Reviewer of the Month!
Jan-Erik was kind to give us a short interview as a reviewer for Acta
Why be a reviewer for Acta Orthopaedica?
Peer review is a central part of scientific publishing and serves as an academic form of quality control. As a researcher, this process is invaluable; through a thorough review, a manuscript is often significantly improved thanks to critical and generally well‑intentioned comments from reviewers. My own research group has frequently benefited from this. It is therefore rewarding to be able to provide the same service to other researchers. In addition, being a reviewer is a highly educational experience—not only through the process of proposing improvements to a manuscript, but also by reading the comments and concerns raised by other reviewers. As a reviewer, you gain valuable experience that will benefit you when preparing your own manuscripts. When Acta Orthopaedica invites you to review, it is usually because they believe the manuscript lies within your area of expertise and that you can make a meaningful contribution to the evaluation process. I would therefore encourage everyone who is invited to review to accept the opportunity.
How do you motivate yourself to do a review?
As long as I have the time and see that the manuscript falls within one of my areas of interest, finding motivation is not difficult. The manuscripts sent out for review are generally of good quality, and it is motivating to see that my input helps strengthen and improving a manuscript before potential acceptance and publication. I also keep in mind that my own manuscripts will need reviewers in the future, so contributing is part of the give‑and‑take nature of academic publishing.

We congratulate associate professor @Annette W-Dahl on being the Editorial board´s choice as the Reviewer of the Month!
Anette was kind to give us a short interview as a reviewer for Acta
Why be a reviewer for Acta Orthopaedica?
Being a reviewer is a way to contribute the knowledge and experience I have gained over the years that may be helpful to others. At the same time, I get the opportunity to gain new knowledge, new perspectives and improve my own research. Since Acta Orthopaedica, with its transparent review process, is a journal I prefer to publish in, I see it as important to contribute to the process.
How do you motivate yourself to do a review?
It's not difficult, I'm very curious and want to see what other researchers focus on, how they approach a question with perhaps new and twisted methods and get different and new perspectives on a topic. I appreciate taking part in other reviewers' comments and questions and the authors' answers and following how the manuscripts are improved. It's a win-win process where I hopefully contribute and get new insights back.

We congratulate professor Yrjänä Nietosvaara on being the Editorial board’s choice as the Reviewer of the Month.
Yrjänä was kind to give us a short interview as a reviewer for Acta.
Why be a reviewer for Acta Orthopaedica?
Acta Orthopaedica is a quality journal made by Nordic people.
How to motivate yourself to do a review?
Reviewing a manuscript is a learning experience for the reviewer during and after the process. I also very much appreciate Acta Orthopaedica’s feedback by sending all reviewers comments and the decision of the Editor/Editorial board after the process is completed.

We congratulate Lina Holm Ingelsrud, MSc, PhD on being the Editorial board’s choice as the Reviewer of the Month.
Lina was kind to give us a short interview as a reviewer for Acta.
Why be a reviewer for Acta Orthopaedica?
Some of the most constructive feedback I’ve received came through Acta. Acta has a strong tradition of providing timely, high-quality feedback, and the scientific dialogue is marked by professionalism and mutual respect. It’s rewarding to contribute to that tradition.
How to motivate yourself to do a review?
Reviewing gives me a sneak peek into upcoming publications that are highly relevant to my field. I also learn a lot, often diving into the literature to better understand methodology or context. Although time-consuming, it is totally worth it and a chance to give back to the research community.

How to motivate yourself to do a review?

We congratulate Dr Emilia Möller Rydberg on being the Editorial board’s choice as the Reviewer of the Month.
Emilia was kind to give us a short interview as a reviewer for Acta.
Why be a reviewer for Acta Orthopaedica?
My experience with Acta Orthopaedica, both as an author and a reviewer, is a swift and efficient turnover process, which is why I gladly both review and submit papers to Acta Orthopaedica.
How to motivate yourself to do a review?
A good, thorough review can be draining to receive but always improves your work in the end. Reviewing is a way to give back to the research community while also improving my own writing and critical thinking.
