Fracture of hip prostheses due to inadequate welding

Twenty-five patients underwent total hip arthroplasty using a copy of a well-known prosthesis during the period 1974-1976. Five of the prostheses fractured through the neck after 5-12 years. There were no prodromal symptoms and no trauma preceded the fractures. Technical analysis revealed that inadequate welds were responsible.Downloads
